i believed this all my heart

1. This is the time when you feel you have a very intimate and close relationship with Allah.

2. People will not understand you, they will give support but the cant fully understand what are you experiencing, even the husband himself.

3. It is a very lonely journey, it is all about you.

4. People wont tell or motivate you or keep your heads up except for yourself.

5. You will face moments when people will criticise or speak negatively of your work, and you must be able to defend yours. If you dont’ who else?

6. Discipline. Focus. Discipline. You cant lose track, you must have discipline and focus.

7. Eat, Sleep, Shower with your work. Cant leave it.

this is scary :0

8. You must not let a single day pass without working in progress for your thesis, everyday should have progress even a tiny one, even just a single line and even just arranging your materials and what not. All that matters. To keep the spirit high and visible.

9. Tell Allah everything you are feeling, He listens all time. When there is no one for us to look to, return to Him for He’s always there.

10. The journey will consist of many life events but you must still go on and continue no matter what happen.

11. There are times you’ll feel you wanna quit and just let it be, or you are asking yourself why you are doing what you are doing and etc. Those are the crucial times when you have to reflect why you start at the first place.

11. PhD journey is entirely on you. Yes, you are responsible for your journey.

12. PhD is not for everyone, it is a certificate which build your scholarly element hence it is not easy and never expect it will because it aint easy. huhu

13. You must always tell yourself that you are different from your other friends or colleagues. You dont have that much time to waste unnecessarily.

14. PhD is something that will grow you intellectually.

15.  Passionate. The most important thing you must own in blood. Do something that you are passionate enough.

Musyawarah

Allahu.

So, which of your Lord’s favour do you deny? :’(
-----------------------------------------------------

I planned to pursue my study since before this, last year. It is already in my planning, written in my planner and i visioned it clearly.

July came when i completed my application for September intake, and i submitted it on the closing date which fell on my birthday, at the end of July.

I drafted a plain proposal and clicked the Sent button. I was sure if alumni applied, 99% chance will be approved and i constantly told my friends who are applying for masters, dont worry. You’ll be accepted. But when it came to me, there is still that jittery feeling haha.

Alhamdulillah, it didnt take long before they approved my application.

And.. my jaw dropped when i see the total fees i have to pay on the enrollment date. I didnt expect that amount actually. (my bad because i dont ask my friend who already enrolled last semester) And there was  a huge difference between the full time and part time student fees :0

I searched for Yayasan Bank Rakyat Pinjaman Pelajaran Boleh Ubah (PPBU) which i saved before and ready to apply. But still i have to pay the entrance fees. I called and email the postgrad office and they say i must pay whatever stated in the offer letter and i am allowed to shift to part time study the next semester (because part time fees is much affordable) *the calling part aint easy because for the thousand times, someone did pick up my call. Huh. Uia is well known for its disability to pick up calls hihi.

Today, i arranged a meeting wih Dr. Al and went to her room after school. I listened to her for about an hour and i have a  heavier feeling that i should pursue this now. But, i still need to consult with mom.

Tonight, i called her. Asked again for her opinion. And she soothingly adviced me on the path im taking. She said, “ Allah Maha Mendengar. Allah tahu niat baik, cita-cita nak sambung belajar tu. Allah akan bagi dan mudahkan bila tiba masanya “ I asked, but when? Huhu. She continued “the time will come. Dont do things hastily” i dont mom, i planned this some times ago L  but yes i feel it would be a bit uneasy because im riding bike and it would be better if i have a car, easier to commute especially when i need to bring my thick books, laptops and etcetera. “yeah, it is. There are many things you have to consider, like schools. Of course you will have to attend and do many school events and how would you handle if you are still unprepared about this? How’s your students? Will they be neglected because the teacher has too much things in a plate? dont do yet if you are unsure” i’m sure and certain mom i badly wanted to pursue, but the only thing in mind is im scared especially  after meeting with Dr. Al. I dont even started reading any materials yet” i told her, i also think i would be uncomfortable when im currently sharing rooms and focused on studying would be a big deal. This is not an easy thing, i say this repeatedly. She concluded, “ to me, it is better you defer first. Because i can see there are many problems like no transportation, study place, fees and in sha Allah the best time will come for you to pursue”

Me, on the other hand; like i told you, i am 90% sure i will start this semester and when Dr. Al mentioned about discipline, focus and being alone; the percentage dropped and dropped again when i spoke to mom. Maybe because im in a situation which doesnt fit now. I already planned im going to use this part of money to pay for the fees, prepare to change my room a bit to make room for study area, buy a printer at KL Fest, HP brand, prepare to let go my mengaji class after school, prepare to break the news to Guru Besar only, prepare to apply for scholarships and already withdraw money for the registration.

See, i posted about this three years back;

BIGGEST MOTIVATION

i want someone look at me and say, because of you i dont give up.

At schools, if you are in the examination  year (UPSR, PMR SPM) you will have to attend loads of seminars and motivational talks hahahha; which i enjoyed.

I consider myself a motivated person (hihi), whenever i attend such talks; it will boost me even more. But, there's a thing i noticed. That feeling or booster just dont follow you back home. It stayed in you only until the talk last -_-.

Hence, at 17 years old, i drew a conclusion that the best motivator in the wide world is none other than OURSELVES. We cant actually depend on others to make something really work. It may help along the way, of course but in the end, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU. And, i hold to this until today, which is true :)

With that, i turned to reading, helped me a huge lot in moulding who i was, am and who i would be. Reading feeds the mind and helped you stay on track and do not lose along the way. A reader isnt the same who doesnt read, a point i always stressed on the students.

HOW I MOTIVATE MYSELF?

1. Inner speech
- i talk with myself a lot about everything. i believe in subconscious mind and trained myself to be positive and coax myself (what a pity girl :p) if unwanted things happen, which is normal in everyday life.

2. Read books
- i just realised that the books i read in my campus days affected how i conduct myself in life. Reading does bring you a long way, so go read something guys. Feed your mind. Reading also makes me think and understand things faster. The more you read, the faster is the pace in reading.

3. Write my goals
- i always look forward to write my goals, especially when new year comes. This year, i went somewhere comfy, ordered hot coffee, brought a book and a planner - and i wrote my goals of the year. This, i do every year consistently.
* alhamdulillah, the first goal i wrote got realised last February :)

Okay, i think three is enough for now :D

* dont misunderstood okay, this doesnt mean you should stop going to motivational talks. i still do, but bear in mind - it is only you who can make it happen.

See you soon assalamualaikum.

LGBT

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Today, I have a one day workshop on LGBT.  Two speakers were invited, one teaching on the subject at uni and the other one is in the field himself.

L - Lesbian
G - Gay
B - Bisexual
T - Transgender

I rarely took part in knowing more about this group before, only get the surface information on who are they like.

And, surviving a day workshop on this, my eyes opened big and wide realising the ugly and heartbreaking truth in our community.

Theres a lot more to be done and many more dakwah methods to be explored. Among the things that i can share;

- We have to treat the root cause of them being LGBT
- One people having this issue cannot be generalised, because their reasons differed and has to be handled gently and in-person
- Identifying the patterns at a young age
- Avoid judging instead give support and help

This is not a branch issue, it is a big one 😞

Few of the reasons i could mention;
- Rooted from family problem, less affection
- Friends' influence
- Financial problem
- Sexual abuse

I benefited a lot from today's discussion and realised many more jobs awaiting the dua't.

May Allah helps us.

What is a PhD & What it is Not

Thursday, May 25, 2017

One day, I got this lengthy message from my lecturer,  and I feel guilty if i just keep it to myself. This is for you too. Please read on 😊

After having completed a PhD degree myself, and having supervised, co-supervised and examined a number of PhD students over the years, I would like to offer some humble advice and pointers to those aspiring to pursue a PhD degree themselves.

A PhD is the highest academic and research degree from a university. I have seen both remarkable successes and disappointing failures amongst students pursuing this academic accolade. It takes more than just brain power to complete a PhD.

A degree by research is very different from a degree by coursework. A course degree whether at the undergraduate or masters level is heavily structured. A student just have to be disciplined and rigorous in following this predetermined structure regimentally, without much creativity required from him or her. Of course, creativity is demanded from the student in completing assignments and projects but the demand is nothing close to what is required for a PhD degree.

The most important prerequisites for pursuing a successful PhD program are passion, inquisitiveness, creativity, discipline, persistence, perseverance and meticulousness (or attention to detail). I did not mention intelligence not because it is not important, but because it is less important than the other attributes I mentioned. At least, it is in my book. Others may feel differently.

Of those many attributes, I consider passion the most important. Some students start out enthusiastically but loses steam halfway through or towards the end. They lack passion or the love of knowledge. Ever heard of the saying, "when the going gets tough, the tough gets going?" Success in a PhD is simply that. The harder it becomes, the harder you will strive. Sometimes, you do not see the light at the end of the tunnel but you still keep looking for it because you know it is there. When you love what you do, failure is not an option.

Some people do PhD for the wrong reasons. Some take up postgraduate because they could not secure a job after their first or second degree. Some do it because the jobs they have taken up require them to acquire a PhD, for e.g. an academic or a research post. These cannot be the sole reason for pursuing a PhD. You cannot force yourself to do a PhD. You must want to do it badly enough. You cannot force yourself to love something; you must love or want something bad enough to force yourself to get it.

PhD is an academic journey. There will be failures but mainly successes along your way. You may encounter some foes but mainly friends in the same boat as yourself. It always help to be in a group of students to share both your setbacks and achievements. Working alone in a silo is the worst you can do to yourself. There are certain things you want to discuss with your fellow students that you cannot discuss with your supervisor; matters that are either academic or personal.

Your supervisor is your mentor, guide and consultant, not your teacher. He cannot teach you your PhD knowledge, you have to teach yourself through his guidance and wisdom. He is more your friend than he is your master. He does not dictate to you what you must do, he merely points you in the right direction. At the end of your PhD journey, you would have been more knowledgeable on the subject of your research than your supervisor.

I have heard of students not being able to complete their PhD because they could not get along or see eye to eye with their supervisor. This is the worst scenario that can happen to you. If you do not have a supervisor you can work with, you will not get your PhD no matter how good you are or how hard you work. So, choose your supervisor well, not just the university you want to do your PhD in. Just a few months back, I met a doctoral graduate who told me that to be supervised by this one professor carries more prestige among his peers in the working world.

A PhD degree needs sacrifices, especially when you are a family person; a wife, mother, husband or dad. Family is always important and should always be your priority. However, you and your family members must be willing to make sacrifices that are necessary. There can be no gain without pain. That is why when you finally get your PhD degree, your family members can even be happier and more proud of you than you yourself, because it is as much their accomplishment as it is yours. Their sacrifices must be duly appreciated.

So what does it mean when you have a Dr. before your name? Does it mean that you are an expert on a certain subject matter? Hardly so, I think. It means that you are both a seeker as well as a generator of knowledge. It means that you have enriched the world and added on to the vast body of knowledge through your PhD contribution. The world has become a slightly better place from the knowledge that you have contributed through your PhD thesis and publications. The world now knows more on a subject than before you completed your PhD. Your work get referred and cited by other researchers in your field, as they absorb your new knowledge to generate new knowledge of their own.

Your PhD is an end that should be justified by its means. The research methodology, the analysis and the interpretation should justify the conclusion. The new knowledge must have been tested and challenged by your peers and rigorously defended by you. It is an accomplishment unequal by any other feat. Once you have obtained a well-deserved PhD degree, you become your own teacher as self-teaching becomes common practice. You are always curious and tends to read a lot, not just on your subject matter but on everything. You will find doing new things, exploring new frontiers and taking up new challenges more scintillating. In other words, it will change your life and your outlooks forever.

I hope I have inspired some of you to pursue a PhD degree if what you read here is what you really want from a PhD. On the other hand, I hope I have also discouraged others who have a misconception of what a PhD degree entails, so that you will not go down the road of failure.

A PhD is not for everyone.

You may share this post if you think it would help people you know in deciding whether pursuing a PhD degree is the right path for them to take.

Tips Menjelang Exam

Thursday, December 22, 2016

Bismillah.

In sha Allah, petang ni nak share DUA tips nak exam yang anis praktikkan :)
Tips biasa je, tapi semua orang boleh buat.

2. Banyakkan baca Qur'an

- Yang ni, anis dah banyak kali share sebelum ni, lagi banyak kita baca Qur'an, lagi mudah urusan kita sehari-hari
- Cuma, kadang2 kita tak perasan benda ni
- Sempatkan baca Qur'an walaupun semuka setiap kali selepas solat
- Mula sikit2 dulu, lama2 kita sendiri dah terbiasa dan jadi rutin in sha Allah
- Jangan rasa masa kita terbazir dengan baca qur'an. Itu salah.
- Dan jangan rasa, kita kena cepat sebab banyak lagi tak ulangkaji. Ni salah juga.

Semoga bermanfaat :)

Do you need a PhD?

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Assalamualaikum.

Dear all, hope u guys are doing fine in the best of health and imaan :)

A worth reading article ^_^

*************************************************************************************************************
Source: GTI Media, a leading graduate careers media and research business

Doing a PhD is a strenuous undertaking; not something to be entered lightly.
The questions you should be asking yourself before commiting to a PhD programme are:

1.What sort of career do I want?
2.Do I have the elements to succeed?
3. Is this the best use of my time?

Going down the PhD path would take a lot of commitment, so not only should the interest be there but one should be prepared to put in the effort, be disciplined and be ready to make sacrifices like spending endless hours studying and researching.

Career Trajectory

The purpose of doing a PhD is to master a particular field to the extent that you are not only able to teach it to others, but also advance and extend the sum total of the knowledge in that field.

Commonly, PhD holders enter the world of academia. Being on the tenure track means that one has to teach, conduct research and publish regularly to be considered for tenured proffesorship. Do bear in mind that the academic world is cutthroat, saturated and fraught with uncertainty-and do not expect to be lucratively compensated.

Alternatively, a PhD holder could utilise his or her expertise by conducting research for corporations in the industrial marketplace, especially where the sciences are concerned. The obvious plus point are job stability, benefits and a generally decent salary.

One could also become an entrepreneur, using the knowledge and skills acquired during the PhD programme. For example, Google was started by two PhD students at Stanford, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, while they were working on the Stanford Digital Library Project. They are currently each worth an estimated US$16.7bil(at the time of this article written)-although bear in mind that neither ever actually completed their PhD.

Also, publishing, defence, consulting, management and finance jobs would provide a broader scope for a PhD holder to utilise his/her abilities.PhD holders can call upon hard skills uch as proficiency in independent research, data collection and data analysis techniques, and skills like critical thinking and reasoning-all trasnferable to a myriad of occupations.

Elements to Succeed

You should evaluate whether you are suited for the PhD by determining your strengths, weaknesses and motivations.

The PhD is essentially a labour of love. You must be passionate about the field you will be delving into for the next few years of your life. Without real passion for your subject, it will be hard for you to keep going when deadlines loom and experiments fail.

You should also have sufficient academic and intellectual capability-intelligence, creativity, adaptability-that is necessary to keep pace with your peers and supervisors.

You should also have the confidence, work ethic, discipline, focus, competitiveness and maturity to devote yourself fully to the pursuit and expansion of knowledge. The environment of the PhD is unlike that at undergraduate or Master's level. There is little structure, supervision or assistance, and you fully shoulder the responsibility of setting your own goals.

Calculate the Opportunity Cost

The final question you should be asking yourself is whether it would be worth your while to embark on three to five years of further study . And what is your career position in life, career-wise, and how would a PhD improve your future position?

Are you financially able to support yourself for three to five years without needing a full-time job? And is the target job market receptive towards PhDs?

You need to do research by talking to universities, current students, alumni and industry employers. You should also have a firm idea of your research topic and the direction you wish to take.

***************************************************************************************************************

Lastly, dont forget to renew our intention in every undertakings.
Lets hope to be the torchbearers for the Ummah, enlighten the future through the spirit of Islam.
May Allah help us in our journey.
Ameen.

Tips Belajar

Sunday, May 31, 2015
Bismillah.

1. Banyakkan baca Qur'an

- Walaupun sibuk nak exam, jangan lupa baca qur'an.
- Semakin banyak kita baca qur'an makin mudah urusan kita. In sha Allah
- Seeloknya kita jadikan rutin baca qur'an beberapa muka selepas solat.

3. Telefon mak ayah

- Mak ayah kita sebenarnya rindukan kita. Jadi, rajinkan diri telefon mak ayah setiap hari. Ye, setiap hari. Kalau tak boleh, sekurang-kurangnya dua hari sekali. Tapi, bagus sekiranya boleh telefon mak ayah setiap hari ni.
- Telefon mak bukan waktu nak peperiksaan sahaja, tapi setiap masa.
- Minta mak doakan kita.

- Cth: Doraemon, Mudahnya Menjemput Rezeki, The Kite Runner, novel Hlovate , buat teka silang kata atau Sudoku

5. Solat dhuha

Bittaufiq wan najah fil imtihan ^_^

Semoga Allah memberkati seluruh kehidupan kita.
Amin.
