The First Phone Call from Heaven

Monday, December 21, 2015

Bismillah.

Assalamualaikum :)

Such an enjoyable book!

by Mitch Albom

There are three plots (is it called plot? i dont know) in the book.
First. The History of Alexander Graham Bell and his invention, the telephone.
Second. Katherine and her phone calls from heaven.
Third. Sully, a military officer who was found guilty of a jet crash.

*******************************************************************************************************

The story is based in a place called Coldwater, Michigan.
As the title suggests, the story started when a woman named Katherine received a phone call from her sister, Diane who died of a disease two years back. Diane claimed to be calling from heaven.

The call was only for few seconds and it startled Katherine, for sure. Later, she announced the call she received in a Sunday mass at church. There was a mixed emotion among the attendees of the gathering upon knowing that Katherine could be the 'chosen one'.

It doesnt take long for the news to spread and what adds up to the story was Katherine received the call again for the second time in the following week, also on Friday as it was before. And it was not the last. The call from the dead Diane was regularly received every Fridays.

People started to gather at Katherine's house and many are wandering around the city of Coldwater, hoping for the same miracle. In the mean time, Katherine was sharing with the crowd what her dead sister told during the short phone calls.

Not-known to others, there are several other persons whom received the calls from their dead relatives, all giving assurance that 'they' are safe and sound in a different world including Jack Seller and Tess. Only that, these persons chose not to announce it in public that they too are the 'chosen ones'.

*****************************************************************************************************

On the other hand, Sullivan Harding (Sully) whose wife was found dead in a fatal accident didnt believe the event that someone is calling from heaven. He was so involved in investigating the case on his own.

Sully has his own separate story in the book. His wife died due to an accident on the way to see a jet crash(which was her husband's jet) and her car collidded with Elliot Gray Jr., the officer responsible giving him directions from the control tower. Both of them died.

********************************************************************************************************

In the end, Sully found out that the call from heaven was truly a fake one. And to his surprise, the one behind the calls was Elliot Gray, the father of Elliot Gray Jr. who disguise as Horace Belfin and worked at Davidson & Sons, a funeral home. Elliot was actually planning all the calls to redeem his guilty for causing the jet crash of Sully in the first place.

*********************************************************************************************************

I know it might be a bit confusing just by reading the simple review of a book with 326 pages.

The moral of the story that I can share with you;

1. Appreciate those in your circles. Dont wait until they are buried underground and regret.

2. When people believed there is life after death, they will commit to it and will do good. It was narrated in the book that crime cases fall sharply after the news of the miracles spread.

3. The problem in our society is they sometimes believe but the outcome is so long to wait and they lose their patience and choose not wait and do harm instead.

4. Lets be among those who believe and have patience and confidence, that the day will come when all the sadness, griefs, tears, hardships will disappear and we will only embrace the good moments and endless sustenance from Allah SWT.

The author's last line : " We may not known the truth about phones and heaven, but we do know this; in time, He answers all calls, and He answered mine" :)

Overall, this is a nice book and you can always relate to Islam in the author's writings.

Wallahua'lam.
:)
Jannah! May we all meet there one day. Amin :)

May Allah help us in our journey.
May Allah forgive our sins.
May Allah help us to be good.
May Allah help us to be a person with patience.
May Allah help us to be grateful.
May Allah bless us with His infinite blessings.
Ameen.

Wahai anakku,
Satu hari nanti semuanya akan terjawab.
Percayalah engkau bahawa Allah memberikan yang terbaik untukmu.
Maka, senyumlah wahai anak kesayanganku.
Senyum.

Short Tazkirah 3.0

Thursday, November 26, 2015

Bismillah.

Untuk kali ni saya sekadar ingin mengingatkan kita semua tentang baca al qur'an.

Satu waktu dulu, saya pernah terbaca ; makin banyak kita baca al qur'an, makin mudah urusan kita.

Kenapa takut untuk membaca al qur'an waktu nak peperiksaan?

Saya selalu cemburu melihat golongan penghafal al qur'an.
Lagi cemburu melihat adik-adik sekolah yang menghafal qur'an.
Adik adik tahfiz ni bagaikan kain putih yang masih tiada dosa padanya.

" Menghafal sewaktu muda ibarat menulis di atas air. Menghafal di usia tua ibarat menulis di atas batu"

Tapi, tidak mengapa. Ayuh, mula menghafal daripada sekarang. :)
Sedikit sedikit lama lama jadi bukit.

Ayuh perkemaskan bacaan al quran kita.

Dan jangan lupa, lazimi al qur'an dalam kehidupan seharian.
Jangan tinggalkan al qur'an.
Wajibkan kepada diri kita untuk membaca al qur'an walau sehelai  setiap hari.

Semoga istiqamah dalam kebaikan.
Ameen.

Amalan Kecil yang Besar Ganjarannya

Friday, November 20, 2015

Assalamualaikum.

Nabi Muhammad SAW pesan;

Do you need a PhD?

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Assalamualaikum.

Dear all, hope u guys are doing fine in the best of health and imaan :)

A worth reading article ^_^

*************************************************************************************************************
Source: GTI Media, a leading graduate careers media and research business

Doing a PhD is a strenuous undertaking; not something to be entered lightly.
The questions you should be asking yourself before commiting to a PhD programme are:

1.What sort of career do I want?
2.Do I have the elements to succeed?
3. Is this the best use of my time?

Going down the PhD path would take a lot of commitment, so not only should the interest be there but one should be prepared to put in the effort, be disciplined and be ready to make sacrifices like spending endless hours studying and researching.

Career Trajectory

The purpose of doing a PhD is to master a particular field to the extent that you are not only able to teach it to others, but also advance and extend the sum total of the knowledge in that field.

Commonly, PhD holders enter the world of academia. Being on the tenure track means that one has to teach, conduct research and publish regularly to be considered for tenured proffesorship. Do bear in mind that the academic world is cutthroat, saturated and fraught with uncertainty-and do not expect to be lucratively compensated.

Alternatively, a PhD holder could utilise his or her expertise by conducting research for corporations in the industrial marketplace, especially where the sciences are concerned. The obvious plus point are job stability, benefits and a generally decent salary.

One could also become an entrepreneur, using the knowledge and skills acquired during the PhD programme. For example, Google was started by two PhD students at Stanford, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, while they were working on the Stanford Digital Library Project. They are currently each worth an estimated US$16.7bil(at the time of this article written)-although bear in mind that neither ever actually completed their PhD.

Also, publishing, defence, consulting, management and finance jobs would provide a broader scope for a PhD holder to utilise his/her abilities.PhD holders can call upon hard skills uch as proficiency in independent research, data collection and data analysis techniques, and skills like critical thinking and reasoning-all trasnferable to a myriad of occupations.

Elements to Succeed

You should evaluate whether you are suited for the PhD by determining your strengths, weaknesses and motivations.

The PhD is essentially a labour of love. You must be passionate about the field you will be delving into for the next few years of your life. Without real passion for your subject, it will be hard for you to keep going when deadlines loom and experiments fail.

You should also have sufficient academic and intellectual capability-intelligence, creativity, adaptability-that is necessary to keep pace with your peers and supervisors.

You should also have the confidence, work ethic, discipline, focus, competitiveness and maturity to devote yourself fully to the pursuit and expansion of knowledge. The environment of the PhD is unlike that at undergraduate or Master's level. There is little structure, supervision or assistance, and you fully shoulder the responsibility of setting your own goals.

Calculate the Opportunity Cost

The final question you should be asking yourself is whether it would be worth your while to embark on three to five years of further study . And what is your career position in life, career-wise, and how would a PhD improve your future position?

Are you financially able to support yourself for three to five years without needing a full-time job? And is the target job market receptive towards PhDs?

You need to do research by talking to universities, current students, alumni and industry employers. You should also have a firm idea of your research topic and the direction you wish to take.

***************************************************************************************************************

Lastly, dont forget to renew our intention in every undertakings.
Lets hope to be the torchbearers for the Ummah, enlighten the future through the spirit of Islam.
May Allah help us in our journey.
Ameen.

Bismillah.

1. Tadabbur ayat 6 surah at Tahrim

19. Suami tolong juga bantu isteri di rumah.

20. Suami jangan ambil kesempatan atas kebaikan isteri.

21. Berlapang dada dengan kelemahan pasangan.

22. Muslimat jangan putus hubungan dengan jemaah selepas kahwin. Eg: usrah.

23. Rumah kita sebagai markas dakwah kita.

Assalamualaikum :)

Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV, Kota Bharu, Kelantan
17 Oktober 2015

Assalamualaikum w.b.t

"Maka, nikmat Tuhan yang manakah yang kamu dustakan?"

Why is he special?
What makes him an inspiration to others?
What cause his life story shared by many?

Because he taught us that we take things for granted too much.
Because we forgot to thank Allah in our daily life.
Because we thought we've got the biggest problem in the world.
Because we lived too comfortably.

Once in a while,
We should open our eyes to the world.
See the happenings here and there.
And see where we stand.

Dont forget to shoot the arrows at night.
Pray tahajjud.
Allah knows whilst you know not.

See the video here : The Story of Robert Davilla by Ust Nouman Ali Khan.

May Allah made us firm believers.
May Allah show us the way.
May Allah grant us istiqamah.

Short Tazkirah (ST) 2.0

Saturday, October 03, 2015
Assalamualaikum.

Dear all, one short tazkirah for today :)

credit to

Allah knows ALL even leaves falling to the ground.
Life is full of trials.

Financial problem.
Family problem.
Health problem.

Sometimes, we may be struck by some problems and keep thinking about the problem over and over again.
We all experienced it.

Put your efforts to solve the problems.
Grab the chance and turn back to Allah.
Hes never far and always listening.

"Easier said than done"

Allah has a reason for putting us in any situations.
It is our duty to search for wisdoms behind everything that occured.
And, dont forget to smile :)

Have you ever heard the story of a man named Robert Davilla?
When I first knew his name, I thought hes a football player ^_^
So, I paid no attention.
Once, when I got to know who he is, I was amazed and still I am.
MashaAllah.

One thing that made me realised after listening to the story of Robert Davilla was His favours is in abundance. Yes, in abundance.
Yet, we failed to see and appreciate.

" So, which of the favours of your Lord you would deny? " (Surah ar Rahman)

May Allah made us firm believers.
May Allah give us strength of imaan to pray Tahajjud prayers.
May Allah forgive our sins.
May Allah guide us to the right path.
May Allah help us in becoming true Muslims deserved for Jannah.

Ameen.

Dua for Future Husband

Just keep believing coz Allah knows BEST :)

O Allah, please grant me the one

Who will be the garment for my soul

Who will satisfy half of my deen

And in doing so make me whole

Make him righteous and on your path

In all he will do and say

And sprinkle water on me at Fajr

Reminding me to pray

May he earn from halal sources

And spend within his means

May he seek Allah’s guidance all the time

To fulfill all his dreams

May he always refer to Qur’an

And the Sunnah as his moral guide

May he thank and appreciate Allah

For the woman at his side

May he be conscious of his anger

And often fast and pray

Be charitable and sensitive

In every possible ways

May he honor and protect me

And guide me in this life

And please Allah! Make me worthy

To be his loving wife

And finally, O Allah!

Make him abundant in love and laughter

In taqwa and in sincerity

In striving for the hereafter

Ameen.

This isnt mine.

Islamic Finance : An Alternative @ Panacea?

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Assalamualaikum :)

Dear all,
After a long break, now I feel like writing.

Just some sort of discussion about Islamic finance. Is it an alternative or panacea (solution)?

Beforehand, let me give you an interesting analogy (it wasnt originally mine :D)

You are in a flight from KL to Kota Bharu. The flight attendant asked you " Sir, would you prefer tea or coffee?"

Let say you prefer coffee. Okay, that is fine. What happen if you choose tea? Of course, it does not matter either. Everyone ought to choose what they like, isn't it?

Alright. What if you have to choose between coffee and wine? Then only it will make a big difference.

Why?
Because both tea and coffee is halal and thus allowed to consume but wine is intoxicating and thus prohibited in Islam.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the context of banking today, especially in Malaysia, the conventional and Islamic banking co-exist and is competing with one another.
The first Islamic bank established in Malaysia was Bank Islam, in 1983. It was an experimental bank, in which the government want to see whether there would be demands for Islamic banking products and its ability to survive within the conventional environment at that time. After more than 30 years, we can see that the experiment succeeded and more Islamic banks were established and the industry flourished and get attention from industry players globally. Malaysia was also the first country to issue Sukuk.
Islamic finance does not merely focusing on Islamic banking. It also covers  Islamic capital market and Islamic money market.
Okay, let's get back on track.
For me, personally I will say that Islamic finance is a solution. It is not an alternative. Hereby, I list my views and you are free to agree or disagree :)
1. When you mention of the word solution, it means the other party must have its illness or weakness that you want to avoid. In conventional banking, it is undeniable that it operates solely based on riba (interest). Meanwhile, in Islamic finance, we prohibit Riba and we exchanged it with something called profit (though it is also controversial issues regarding the similarity of these two).
2. The conventional banking does not operate based on real economic activities. It is merely accounting entries. In islamic banking, for personal financing, it is based on Tawarruq contract (commodity murabaha). There is an underlying asset which is crude palm oil (CPO). When you want to sign an agreement, the bank officer will usually ask you to tick the box saying that the bank will  take care of the crude palm oil and not to be sent in real to the you(At least we have the underlying asset). This contract is still new and it replaced the contract of deferred payment(Bay' Bithaman Ajil) which has its own isues.
I know you will say that actually in the end, the islamic and conventional bank is actually the same. The profit that the islamic bank charged is just like the interest from a conventional bank.
But, you know sometimes we have to accept it and if you do have any better suggestions, go to the relevant authority to voice it out. It is also good to bear in mind that in every Islamic banks, they have a Shariah Board and they are actually responsible in ensuring the end-product is halal and does not resemble riba. As common people who do not get involved in scholars' discussion and issues fatwa, we just be positive and be thiqah with the matters that have been decided by our scholars.
3. We must realise that our global economy is operating based on fiat money which is the mother of riba. (I'll discuss it in detail later) Therefore, our dream of having a true Islamic financial system may have some obstacles and struggles but kudos to all stakeholders that has brought Islamic finance this far.
I believe that every Muslims want to have the purest banking system and we must believe that the Muslim authorities are trying their best to serve the needs of Muslims (especially in Malaysia). The enactment of Islamic Financial Services Act (IFSA) 2013 has also levelled up the recognition of Islamic banking and finance.
Wallahua'lam.
May Allah give us the strength to do good deeds.
May Allah give us good health.
May Allah remove our hardships.
May Allah forgive our sins.
May Allah unite us all in paradise.
Ameen.
Short Tazkirah 1.0
Monday, June 22, 2015
Assalamualaikum :)
Dear all, one short tazkirah for today ^_^
Ulama' mentioned that we cannot escape from THREE things in our worldly life which is worthy to share.
1. Death
- This is ultimately true. Allah says in the Quran  "Every soul shall taste death".
- No matter how hard we try or how far we go, death will come to us when it is due.
- Therefore, a wise person is the one who's always prepared for death.
2. Difficulties in life
- Yes. As long as we live, we have to endure hardships and trials.
- Being a student, you have your own difficulties and challenges. i.e: completing assignments before     its due, exams, quizzes
- Being an employee : Boss , job deadlines, KPI
- Being an employer : Employees,  high expectation, KPI
- Being the citizen of a country : Injustice ruler, lack of welfare service
- Being the servant of Allah : Difficulties in abstaining from the haram things, mujahadah nafs
- The list goes on. The most important is we are doing the right things that are permissible in Islam and remember to put the end vision is akhirah (akhirah mindsetting).
- We pray to Allah to accept our deeds and grant us in the dunya and akhirah.
3. Safe from people's perception
-  It is impossible to be liked by all.
- The best example that can be quoted here is the story of a man with his son and their donkey.
Ameen
That's all for now.
Ramadhan kareem.
Allahuakram.
:)
Road to Ramadhan ^_^
Tuesday, June 09, 2015
Bismillah.
Alhamdulillah for the blessings of Iman and Islam.
Alhamdulillah :)
1 Ramadhan 1436H = 18th June 2015.
That's just around the corner.
9 days to go.
Ameen ;)
1. Set your goal for Ramadhan
- Goal: Completed Qur'an recitation once or twice during the Ramadhan @ completed qur'an recitation each week @ every day. Subhanallah.
- Once you set your goal, you must draft a strategy to realize it. If you want to khatam one time in Ramadhan, then you may divide the number of pages you have to read each day.
- When you set up a goal, it will boost your courage to have it realized :) In sha Allah
2. List the output you desired.
Eg: - memorize few surah (specify which surah/short surah or long surah)
       - increase the frequency of sunnah prayers (my naqibah once shared that she aimed            to not leave  any rawatib prayers in Ramadhan and hoped to be consistent in the               coming months)
       - to become a better person (in what way? be specific)
       - to become more generous (how? state it)
3. Welcome the month of Ramadhan with full heart <3
* Ramadhan is not about losing weight, its about losing sins =_=
Ramadhan Kareem.
Allahuakram.
May Allah give us the chance to meet Ramadhan this year.
May Allah help us to benefit the most from Ramadhan. .
May Allah guide us to the right path.
Amin.
Muktamar PAS ke 61
Monday, June 08, 2015
Bismillah.
Alhamdulillah.
Selesai sudah Muktamar PAS yang ke 61 yang berlangsung dari 4-6 Jun 2015 di Kuala Selangor.
Tahniah dan takziah kepada saff kepimpinan sesi 2015-2017.
Seawal perkenalan dengan jemaah ini yang matlamatnya adalah Daulah Islamiyah, saya menyedari perjalanan menuju ke tahap itu tidaklah mudah. Bahkan payah dan ada pelbagai ranjau onak dan duri yang akan menyekat di sepanjang perjalanan.
" Kalau apa yang engkau serukan kepada mereka (wahai Muhammad) sesuatu yang berfaedah yang sudah didapati, dan satu perjalanan yang sederhana (tidak begitu jauh), nescaya mereka (yang munafik itu) akan mengikutmu; tetapi tempat yang hendak dituju itu jauh bagi mereka. Dan mereka akan bersumpah dengan nama Allah dengan berkata: "Kalau kami sanggup, tentulah kami akan pergi bersama kamu". (Dengan sumpah dusta itu) mereka membinasakan diri mereka sendiri, sedang Allah mengetahui bahawa sesungguhnya mereka itu orang-orang yang berdusta (tentang tidak sanggupnya mengikutmu)." (At Taubah 9:42)
Sebagai ahli yang baru setahun jagung mengenali perjuangan ini, cukuplah kalau saya nyatakan rasa kagum dan insaf tatkala melihat golongan berusia yang masih lagi teguh bersama jemaah ini. Dalam usia tua mereka, masih lagi istiqamah hadir ke usrah kawasan, kuliah haraki saban minggu dan program-program jemaah yang lain. Mereka kelihatan begitu tulus dan saya percaya telah banyak yang mereka korbankan untuk jemaah ini. Pengorbanan masa, tenaga, wang ringgit dan harta benda. Apalah sangat jika nak dibandingkan dengan kepenatan berjuang di zaman kampus.
Dengan pelbagai isu label melabel dan berpuak-puak, cukuplah kalau saya katakan saya cemburu dengan keikhlasan para 'amilin yang telah menggerakkan jemaah sekian lama. Bukan mudah untuk istiqamah, tetapi bukan juga mustahil.
Ramai orang ingin mati sebagai pejuang. Tapi, tidak ramai yang turun ke medan dan benar-benar berjuang :'(
Semoga Allah kurniakan kita istiqamah
Ya Allah, tunjukkan kami jalan yang Engkau redhai.
Bantulah kami untuk mencapai redhaMu.
Bantulah kami untuk melakukan amal kebaikan.
Bantulah kami untuk mendekatkan diri kepadaMu.
Amin.
