Assalamualaikum. I have a dear story on my qur'an memorising journey.
At UIA PJ, i consider myself a 'jakun', a real girl from kampung. I was overwhelmed with the presence of graduates from Darul Quran, JAKIM. I envied every inch of their life. Their manners, circle of friends, attire etc. I wanna be part of them. Coming from a science school background, i had zero knowledge on such institution, a place dedicated for you to memorise quran. I regretted it badly up to a point my naqibah suggested that at that age, 18 years old i can still apply for diploma course. But, there's no turning back and picturing my dad's anger i just cant reverse. I should continue my study at uia.
A year later, enrolled into main campus. The new students may choose what course do they want for curricular activity which contributes 0.5 credit hour for six semesters. I chose Tahfiz Course (niche area) which requires students to memorize two chapters in each semester. So, at the end of the third year, you are equipped with 12 chapters of quran or so i recalled.
I was thrilled of course and asked around for opinions (from al hafizah sisters). I thought this is the chance i've been waiting 😊 But, the thing is those who want to get enrolled into tahfiz course have to go for interview first. It is kind of obligatory, just to check whether you are eligible or not. The huffaz are brilliant people okayy , not just lay man. And because, once you signed up for the course, there's no turning back. The system works thay way.
The interviewer was a young ustaz and guess what? He disapproved me taking the tahfiz course, and recommended me to shift my choice to another courses. I was speechless and dejected for being turned down. He said, unless you are already a hafiz/ah, it would be difficult to memorise two chapters in a semester. The rate of success is quite low, according to previous semester. Huhuu. I still can pictured what i felt that time. If they (uia) created a course named tahfiz but only specialise for a hafiz/ah , better named it as murajaah. I was angry for that reason. Let me try or at least give some words of encouragement. 😠
Anyhow, i knew that ustaz didnt want the 0.5 credit hour affect my CGPA. That's what he advised too. Maybe, that's for the best. So, i just took the normal course taken by majority of other students > Fardhu Ain class and those stuffs.
It didnt stop there of course. I badly wanted to memorize quran with the supervision of an ustaz/ah. Thus, when i was in the third year for Skills Course, i chose Tahfiz (#again) which covers two semesters, with no strict regulation. Simply because, we only have to memorise few surahs in each semester. Such surah like al waqiah, as sajdah, Sod and other long surahs.
Alhamdulillah.
I owed my time in iium for shaping a better version of me plus my involvement in society (ma'ruf club).
So, what's with surah al baqarah? 😂
Next post okayy, intro already this lengthy hehe
