books update

Hi everyone. Assalamualaikum.

Okay let me preface this by saying that my bookish blog cannot be log on and i don't know why. I tried searching why wordpress is down, is it just for me or what and how. Been trying for so many time and at different intervals. The website is there and I can scroll through tapi tak boleh login. I loved writing there, harapnya boleh la login lepas ni, need to figure out what's the problem.

Okeh, that aside; it's Sunday morning and i had my small breakfast; iced latte homemade in a tumblr + donut.

Two most recent books I read was historical fiction and i gave them both 3 stars out of 5. When The Moon is Low, Nadia Hashimi & The Lion Women of Tehran, Marjan Kamali. I've read their writings before and when i looked up for their other books, there they are. The former is on Afghanistan war and the latter is obviously from the title, Iran background.

The hard thing about going through passages about war is it is still actually ongoing right now, the genocide in Gaza. I literally have to pause reading the first book because it is heartbreaking and you can't not imagine the very similar and more terrible things happening. The most documented genocide in human history. Few days back, the docu/movie on Hind Rajab was launched and to think that it is still massively ongoing and funded by the US govt made you just feel very helpless. May Allah help us all.

Afghanistan is a land of widows and widowers, orphans and the missing. Missing a right leg, a left hand, a child or a mother. Everyone was missing something.

Next, I may or may not completed RF Kuang books in the span of several months haha, March to July. Not gonna list them all down here. My first book of hers was Babel and the last one I read was the last book from The Poppy War Trilogy with Fang Runin & the smug Yin Nezha. Yup. Her writings are top notch and considering she hold few degrees from established universities, yup 5 stars. The thing with author is you as an avid reader could distinguish beautiful writings, the mild one, the cliche and the not so good writer. (Disclaimer: No, i am awful myself haha that goes without saying). She's on Free Palestine btw, i researched before and wowed at that because due to Yellowface book cover, i thought she's not (walaupun takde kaitan). Not related, but she's younger than meeee haha

It's hard to take you seriously when you do things like drop bombs on innocent children. -The Poppy War Trilogy

The authors who writes admirably, expertly written story could really bring the readers to delve into whatever the book is about. It's not only fictions. If you say that fictions are for school students, a waste of time; i'm sorry we can't be friends haha for real. There are vast knowledge you can learn from those writings, truly; only that you have to pick the right books okay. If you haven't read anything from her, please do so, highly recommended. Loved all her books.

Academia was decidedly not about gold stars. If you went into the field for gold stars, you were in for disappointments. -Katabasis

There are some other books too but save it for later tapi tak tahu la bila pulak rajin nak menulis here. InshaAllah.

Oh yeah and my most recent purchase from Kinokuniya was another Penguin Classics, Jane Eyre + a tote bag. That is actually my third book of Jane Eyre, different version. Do i need three books of the same title? I don't. Do i buy it? Yes! Sebab ada diskaun + i really loved this version tapi sebab dia agak mahal so I have to restrict myself. So boleh la kan :p

Oh and I just found out that there is this one particular book summarizing all book titles published under Penguin Classics and IT IS GORGEOUSS GORGEOUSS !! Ada senarai nama buku dan juga pengenalan pasal authors.

I was internally screaming when I flipped through the pages (ebook), loved it so muchh thank you to Henry Elliot. Looked for it - priced at RM192.00 @ Kino. I liked the size as well, compact and colorful. Will buy it one day hopefully semoga ada rezeki.

I'm gonna end this with a quote from Nelson Mandela biography which i just read last year; (to add here, his grandson also on the course of the right side of history in support of palestine, following a flotilla to break the siege in gaza - global sumud flotilla)

Youth should arm themselves with the most powerful weapon of modern times - education, education and education.
